Trees from the Tercentenary Theatre

About the Tercentenary Theatre Trees

These remaining pens were handcrafted from the trimmings of the Honey Locust trees that grow in the Tercentenary Theatre, located at the heart of Harvard College. Each year, the Tercentenary Theatre is transformed into the venue for Harvard College's commencement ceremonies.

Unlike Elms, Honey Locust trees do not naturally form a beautiful "wine-glass" shaped canopy. To maintain the desired canopy height for the Theatre, these trees are regularly trimmed and pruned. Very little of this wood remains.
