Bowl Description: This bowl comes from the Red oak trees (Quercus rubra) that stand in Old Harvard Yard. As part of the on-going campus renewal and preservation, trimmings occur in the winter to to beautify the campus come spring. The oak tree from which this bowl was taken still stands on campus today. Old Harvard Yard is also home to Massachusetts Hall, which was built in 1720 and thought to be one of the oldest academic buildings in the United States. The University President's offices are located in the first floors of Massachusetts Hall. Across the Yard, stands the John Harvard Statue or "The Statue of Three Lies."
